General Election 2019 Rutland and Melton Hustings All Saints Church Oakham Rutland

General Election 2019 Rutland and Melton Hustings All Saints Church Oakham Rutland

I was surprised to see the Green candidate using what appears to be a single use plastic water
bottle. More surprising was his attack against Tesco and the Co-op, rather hypocritical when you
consider his employer Weatherpersons has some times been blamed for the demise of the small independent pub. As an employee of Tesco along with many of local residents I did not appreciate the attack.  The Co-op although expensive is known to be ethical and supports local food producers and this can be seen by what is stocked in the town superstore. Apart from that small attack the Green candidate has improved over the years.

I found myself wondering who had provided the Libdem Candidate with her statistics and facts?
here are a couple of things she incorrectly stated, only one affordable house had been built in Rutland and that the council tax was collected by Rutland County Council and sent to central government who then sent some back to the county council. She claimed this was wrong and all the money should stay in Rutland and Councillors should spend it and be held accountable if voter were not happy. I do believe that is already something voters can do and often don't. Just look at the state of most town councils.

More than one candidate said they would abolish business rates for small business on the high street,
odd when you consider most of the small business's don't pay anything die to rates relief available for all business.
