Black Lives Matter Peaceful Walk Through Oakham Rutland

Black Lives Matter Peaceful Walk Through Oakham Rutland

According to social media there will be a Black Lives Protest March here in Oakham this morning.
Some posts suggest the protesters are meeting outside the County Library here in Oakham at 11.30 am.

I have spoke to a person who has told me that this event was never planned as a protest, it is meant to be a peaceful walk through the town ending in Cutts Close for a time of reflection or meditation.

This morning local a local police officer has tweeted he will be engaging this morning with those taking part in a peace walk through the town.

At a time when we are not meant to be hold events I think the organisers should have waited.

Social media opinion seems not to be against the intention, many feel it is too soon and it angers those who have been following the social distancing rules.

One resident posted not in our town thanks.

Peaceful walk for anti-racism. Hello all, we hope you are well. I am organising a peaceful walk this weekend in memory of George Floyd and with respect to anti-racism events worldwide if you would like to join me, do state below. We could walk through the town on Saturday so we raise awareness to more people; we will observe social distancing and I have plenty of cardboard to make signs / posters if you need them. Look after yourselves and keep healthy.
