EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF OAKHAM TOWN COUNCIL to be held via Zoom on Wednesday 1 July 2020 commencing at 6.30pm. Still No Normal Meetings Why?
The Council which provides no essential services to our town recently spent over £20.000 moving its offices out of the town centre.
The Council has recently been criticised on Social Media by a former Mayor for failing to consult residents who have paid for this move. Just wait until he sees the massive rent increase, rates increase and other increased costs. A move was always meant to reduce costs this move is unacceptable. It was even supported by Conservative Rutland County Councillor Alan Walters who was a town councillor who voted to support the move and its costs. Why did the Town Council exempt the items relating to the move? They have forgotten there role in our community it is to serve it at the moment all I see is a council that only serves its own needs and ensures it has more than enough funds to pay an over paid dishonest clerk. Some one needs to sort out why it is permitted to keep unlawful reserves
off over £250,000, Councillor Alan Walter attempted to justify this on social media the other week claiming he tried to sort it when he worked on this years budget if that was true why did Oakham Town Council then demand further money for this year, he attempted to place the blame on one former councillor that may be partially correct, but lets not forget nearly all the members agreed with what Michael Haley did, So its not just his fault it actually goes right back to when Alf Dewis was whispering into the then Mayors Ear Jane Woodcock who is recorded persuading members of a need to increase the income just in case it is needed and that has happened every year since 2013. Members appear not to understand the finance laws of Parish Councils you can only demand money from residents for needs that benefit the community. They can not as the current clerk was said publicly take money and put it away for a rainy day. You can of course put money aside for agreed capital projects, Oakham Town Council has never agreed to do this. So I am hoping at the next budget they won't raise a precept demand because they don't need the money. the likes of Councillor Alan Walters will say they will spend the money on town centre improvement project, they never have and never will in my opinion. In the past when I raised the point the street lights need painting and have never been painted in at least 20 years+ the response was its Rutland County Councils Responsibility. I have never known a parish council show as much disinterest in the town it is meant to serve.
At the last Extraordinary meeting the council voted to approve a very high payment for the poor quality hanging baskets they added Cllr Clough has consent to inspect them.
Looking at them yesterday I do not have to look very hard to see many are dying. I hope she reports this back and the council does not pay the £17,000
Why is Oakham Town Council not holding proper meetings. Why has Oakham Town Council not held its required AGM and Why has Oakham Town Council not held a town meeting so residents
can join them on zoom and raise the many concerns that are being raised on-line about this pointless council.
The High Street has already been opened since the 15th June 2020 and Oakham Town Council has done nothing and only just going to consider things to do next week.
