Oakham and Rutland Remembrance Sunday 2020 It started early for me, in the fog. I went to the war memorial, this time I arrived earlier than normal. Often there is no one at the war memorial here in Oakham before 2.30pm on Remembrance Sunday. This year people were visiting throughout the day.
Just before 11.00am The Mayor of Oakham Oakham Town Councillor Cllr Dave Romney turned up with a small gathering of people to lay wreaths at the war memorial because he had not been invited the County Council event held later in the day.
After the Mayor had departed people still visited to make their own personal act of remembrance.
At 1pm a work man from Rutland County Council turned up to seal of the church yard.
At 2.30pm Rutland County Council, Dr Sarah Furness Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Rutand and Melton MP Alicia Kearns attended a private service and wreath laying ceremony led by the Oakham Team Rector, Revd Stephen Griffiths.
Alexa gatecrashed the event the church was using a speaker outside that I am guessing was connected to Alexa and this was left on as Cllr Ian Razell was reading names Alexa bellowed around the church yard I am sorry I did not understand that.
Video of both events will be posted later.
