Help decide what future Rutland homes and communities look like

Help decide what future Rutland homes and communities look like

There is still time to take part in a public consultation on new Draft Design Guidelines for Rutland.

The design guidelines, which cover both Rutland and South Kesteven, aim to help improve the quality of new build developments in the area by setting out each Council’s high design expectations and detailing the steps that must be taken for anyone wishing to apply for planning permission. The guidance will also be used to assist with the assessment of development proposals.

The Design Guide covers all types of development, including large residential developments, commercial schemes and household extensions and is a crucial guide for the future development plans in the local area. The work is being funded by a special grant awarded by the Government to Rutland and South Kesteven on the basis that plans would be developed jointly between the two Councils.

Rutland County Council is encouraging residents and businesses to get involved in designing the document – a final version of which will be published specifically for Rutland.

“The Design Guide that's being developed for Rutland will play an important role in setting the standard for future developments and determining planning applications in the county. The visual impact of developments is important but so too is the overall design and how communities can be shaped to ensure the built environment enhances peoples' quality of life. This is why it's important people review the dragt guide and give us their feedback"

Councillor Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County and Portfolio Holder for Planning

Rutland’s consultation on the Draft Design Guide runs until Friday 12 March 2021.

The draft documents are available to view on Rutland County Council’s website, where you can also find a link to complete an online consultation survey. Full details can be found at: www.rutland.gov.uk/designguide.
