A former Leicestershire detective constable Christopher Richards has been sentenced to six years imprisonment after being found guilty of child sex offences

A former Leicestershire detective constable has been sentenced to six years imprisonment after being found guilty of child sex offences following a trial at court.

Christopher Richards, 45, was found guilty of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence following the trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

Richards, of West Bridgford, had also previously pleaded guilty to one count of making an indecent/pseudo image and five counts of possession of indecent images of children.

The investigation was led by Nottinghamshire Police who arrested Richards in March 2020. Richards was immediately suspended from the force while the investigation was ongoing. He then resigned from the force in May 2020.

Following the conclusion of the court hearing, although Richards has resigned from the force, internal misconduct proceedings will be progressed against the former officer.
