Nominations for the 4th May local elections closed on Tuesday 4 April 2023. This means that the list of candidates for each council is now complete. Rutland County Council will publish the list before 5pm on the 5th April 2023

Voters will be able to cast their ballots on Thursday 4 May 2023.

This year, voters will also need to show photo ID in order to vote. This is a new requirement that was introduced by the government in the Elections Act 2022. The government argues that this will help to prevent voter fraud.

There are a number of different forms of ID that will be accepted, including:

A passport

A driving licence

A provisional driving licence

A UK identity card

A bank or building society card with a photo

A debit or credit card with a photo

If you do not have any of these forms of ID, you can apply for a free voter ID card from your local electoral registration office.

The 4th May local elections will be the first time that voter ID has been required in the UK. It remains to be seen whether this will have any impact on voter turnout.
