Street Velodrome Brings the Thrill of Track Cycling to Oakham Rutland

Street Velodrome Brings the Thrill of Track Cycling to Oakham

Despite the showery weather, many people turned out to enjoy the Street Velodrome in Oakham Market Place on Monday 24th July. The free pop-up cycling event is the "world's most accessible live cycle sport event" and offers people of all ages and abilities the chance to experience the thrill of track cycling.

The Street Velodrome is a temporary track that is set up in a public space. It features two banked corners, which allow riders to experience the same feeling as they would on a real velodrome. The event also included live music, celebrity presenters, and expert coaches, who were on hand to help people improve their skills.

"We're really pleased with how popular the Street Velodrome has been today," said Patrick Robinson, General Manager of Street Velodrome. "The weather wasn't ideal, but that didn't put people off. We've had people of all ages and abilities coming along to have a go, and everyone's been having a great time."

Olivia, aged 9, said,

"I had a great time on the Street Velodrome today. It was really challenging, but also a lot of fun. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a new way to get active."

I am sure that will please Active Rutland who were also attending the event.

Florence, aged 79, said,

"I've never been on a velodrome before, but I really enjoyed it. The coaches were really helpful, and I learned a lot."
