Leicestershire Police Seek Witnesses in Attempted Car jackings, Possibly Linked to Shop Burglary

Leicestershire Police are investigating two attempted car jackings and a burglary, which they believe could be linked, that took place in Oakham.

Shortly after midnight, a woman was approached in her vehicle on Station Road by a man who attempted to steal her car. She bravely resisted, and the suspect fled the scene empty-handed.

A few minutes later, another driver on Melton Road reported being approached by a man who also tried to steal their car. The suspect again made off without the vehicle.

Prior to the attempted car jackings, a shop burglary was also reported in the town. Detectives are investigating a possible connection between the incidents.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any of these incidents, or who has any information that could assist with their investigation. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the early hours of 03/03/2024 in the Station Road or Melton Road areas of Oakham.

If you have any information, please contact Detective Constable 1860 Lauren Hampton on 101 or via the Leicestershire Police website https://www.leics.police.uk/, quoting crime number 24*128357.

While these incidents are concerning, it is important to remember that they are relatively rare. However, it is always advisable to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially when you are alone or in poorly lit areas.
