A very wet morning here in Oakham, for those attending the Royal Visit later this morning.
Parking in Catmose Street was suspended early, from midday yesterday .
Last night Hugh Crouch fitted fence posts, to form part of the cordon around the statue.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are expected to arrive at the castle around 11.00am, the Castle will be closed to the public.
Around midday, they will visit Rutland County Library, this will include a visit to the statue before leaving the centre of Oakham.
Take your umbrella and boots the grass is very soggy.
Sadly I can't attend because I am visiting a member of my family in Addenbrookes Hospital.
Rutland County Council yesterday released further details about todays Royal Visit by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on Tuesday, May 14th.
The Duke and Duchess will be visiting several locations throughout the day, including:
Rutland Showground
Oakham Castle
Oakham Library
Rutland Water
Public Closures and Viewing Opportunity
It's important to note that the Showground and Castle will be closed to the public, The Library buildings will be closed to the public until 2pm on the day of the visit.
However, there will be a chance to see Their Royal Highnesses around midday when they visit The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Statue located next to Oakham Library. Oakham in Bloom volunteers have carried out a wonderful job over the last three days tidying the flower beds in that area. This morning Rutland County Council contractors mowed the grass around the library with a proper lawn mower.
Traffic and Parking
To ensure a smooth visit, there will be temporary traffic measures in place. Catmose Street, between Mill Street and Stamford Road, will be closed from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Additionally, parking will be unavailable in the bays opposite Oakham Library. The council contractors are already attempting to clear these spaces by placing yellow cones as spaces are vacated.
All the signage around the town are showing a different time. for further updates I suggest you listen to Rutland and Stamford Sound on DAB+ , online or via any smart speaker.
