Rutland Honours Armed Forces Week with Flag Ceremony at Oakham Castle
Rutland County Council commemorated Armed Forces Week with a poignant flag-raising ceremony at the historic Oakham Castle. The event drew military personnel, their families, and veterans, all united in their appreciation for those who serve.
The absence of one particular veteran was noticed. A centenarian who had graced previous ceremonies on his birthday, sadly passed away this month. This Rutland resident, one of the county's last D-Day veterans, he will be remembered for his bravery and service.
The ceremony paid tribute not only to active service members but also to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Pupils from Catmose College were also present, adding a youthful dimension to the commemoration. The event served as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of the armed forces and the importance of honouring both past and present service.
