Brooke Road Level Crossing is currently closed to both vehicles and pedestrians. This closure will remain in effect until Friday, October 11th, 2024.
The reason for the closure is construction work on a nearby housing development. The road is being widened to improve traffic flow and a new entrance is being built for the allotments site. While the road is closed, residents within the closure zone will still have access to their homes.
If you are traveling in the area, be aware of the diversion route which takes drivers via Welland Way, Balmoral Road, Braunston Road and Oakham High Street.
This is a considerable long pedestrian diversion, I have written to Network Rail, The Developer our MP and Rutland County Council pointing this out and asking them to consider providing a free mini bus so the less able residents can visit the supermarket and other shops in the town.
