Former Leicestershire Police Officer John Stuart Clough Jailed for Stalking Colleague

Leicestershire, UK – A former Leicestershire police constable has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for stalking a colleague and misusing police computer systems.

John Stuart Clough, 51, pleaded guilty to the offenses, which occurred between 2022 and 2023. In addition to his prison sentence, he was issued with a five-year restraining order.

The court heard how Clough persistently contacted the female officer, who was also a colleague, and attended incidents she was involved in without any legitimate reason. He also used police systems to monitor her whereabouts.

Despite the victim expressing distress over his behavior and Clough initially apologising, the stalking continued. The officer eventually reported the matter to the force, leading to Clough's arrest.

Chief Constable Rob Nixon condemned Clough's actions, emphasizing that stalking would not be tolerated within the force or the community. He praised the victim for her courage in coming forward and assured the public that the force would support victims of stalking.

Clough resigned from the force in March 2024, and misconduct proceedings are now underway.
