Rutland MP Launches Petition Against Proposed Bin Collection Cuts

Rutland County Council faces local backlash over plans to reduce black bin collections to once every three weeks.

Local MP Alicia Kearns has initiated a petition to oppose proposed changes to bin collection services in Rutland. The County Council is considering reducing the frequency of black bin collections from every two weeks to once every three weeks.

Kearns argues that this move would be highly inconvenient for residents, particularly given that Rutland already has the highest council tax rate in the country. The MP has written to the government requesting additional funding to support the council but believes that reducing bin collections is not the right solution.

The petition calls on the council to reconsider the proposed changes and maintain the current fortnightly collection schedule. Kearns urges residents to sign the petition and share it with friends and family to raise awareness of the issue.

The proposed changes have sparked concerns among residents about potential increases in fly-tipping and other waste-related issues. Many residents believe that reducing bin collections would be a significant step backward for environmental sustainability and public health.
