Oakham Blooms Anew with Recycled Plastic Planters, Leaving "Ugly" Past Behind

Oakham Blooms Anew with Recycled Plastic Planters, Leaving "Ugly" Past Behind

Oakham, Rutland – A splash of vibrant colour and a commitment to sustainability are breathing new life into Oakham's streetscapes, thanks to a recent initiative by Oakham in Bloom and Oakham Town Council. Going are the days of the much-maligned planters that once dotted the town, often described as unsightly and even drawing criticism from East Midlands and Britain in Bloom judges. In their place stand smart, new looking planters clad in recycled plastic, marking a significant visual improvement.

For years, the appearance of Oakham's floral displays was somewhat hampered by the planters themselves. Their outdated design and often weathered state were a point of contention, failing to live up to the beauty of the blooms they held.  Sources suggest that the planters were even a stumbling block in past "in Bloom" competitions, with judges from both the East Midlands and national levels noting their less-than-desirable aesthetic.

However, a new chapter has begun for Oakham's floral arrangements. Oakham Town Council, recognising the need for an upgrade, generously funded a project spearheaded by the dedicated volunteers of Oakham in Bloom. The result is a series of newly cladded planters boasting a fresh and modern look.

The key to this transformation lies in the innovative use of recycled plastic for the planter cladding. This material offers a multitude of benefits, not only contributing to a more attractive appearance but also aligning with contemporary environmental concerns. Recycled plastic is durable, weather-resistant, and requires minimal maintenance, ensuring the longevity of the planters for years to come. Furthermore, by repurposing plastic waste, the project actively contributes to reducing landfill and promoting a circular economy.

The difference the new planters have made is already evident. Residents and visitors alike have commented on the significant improvement in the town's visual appeal.  The recycled plastic cladding provide a sophisticated backdrop for the colourful floral displays, allowing the beauty of the plants to truly shine.

"It's fantastic to see these new planters in place," commented a local resident. "The old ones were really letting the town down. These look so much smarter and it's great to know they're made from recycled materials."

The volunteers at Oakham in Bloom are equally delighted with the outcome.  They have worked tirelessly to ensure the town is filled with beautiful blooms throughout the seasons, and the new planters provide the perfect foundation for their efforts.  "We are so grateful to Oakham Town Council for their support," said a spokesperson for Oakham in Bloom. "These new planters make such a difference to the overall look of the town and will undoubtedly enhance our future 'in Bloom' entries."
