Oakham Celebrates Armed Forces Day with Grand Parade and Church Service

 

This morning, Oakham, Rutland, was alive with a vibrant display of patriotism and community spirit as a grand parade wound its way through the town in celebration of Armed Forces Day, encompassing the solemn remembrance of VE Day and VJ Day. The event, a poignant tribute to the sacrifices of service personnel past and present, culminated in a county church service at  All Saints Church.

The parade, a focal point of the morning's commemorations, showcased a diverse array of participants. Leading the procession were esteemed military personnel, close behind marched a strong contingent of veterans, their presence a powerful reminder of their invaluable contributions and experiences.

The community truly embraced the spirit of the day, with numerous local groups adding to the parade's colorful tapestry. Their participation underscored the deep respect and gratitude felt throughout Rutland for those who serve. 

Notably, representatives from various Rutland parish councils marched, demonstrating a county-wide commitment to honoring military service. However, it was observed that Oakham Town Council was not represented in the parade.

Following the impressive parade, attendees gathered at All Saints Church for a moving county church service. The service provided a moment of quiet reflection, offering prayers and hymns in remembrance of those who have served and continue to serve.
