Rutland County Council (RCC) has issued a severe advisory for residents as heavy rain and flooding hit some areas of Rutland today, Friday, November 14.
The council confirms that around 40-60mm of rain is expected widely across the region, with some places seeing around 80mm. The situation, exacerbated by strong easterly winds and the potential for thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening, has already caused disruption in parts of the county.

Important Safety Messages
The Council is specifically highlighting the following safety messages to residents:
Avoid driving through standing water. Depth can be hard to judge; turn around if you are unsure.
Driving through flood water creates a bow wave, which can push water into homes and cause damage. Please do not attempt it.
If water is entering your property or there is an immediate risk to life, call 999.
Do not walk or drive through flood water, as it may hide hazards such as missing covers or debris.
Do not ignore road closed signs or flood boards as these are in place for your safety. Roads will be reopened in a prioritised manner when safe to do so.
Keep clear of fast-flowing watercourses and ensure children stay away from swollen brooks or streams.
Allow extra time for journeys, drive slowly, increase stopping distances and take care on rural roads.
If you are responsible for a watercourse, check it is clear of debris where safe to do so.
