Ketton Library Set for Brief August Closure for Essential Maintenance

Ketton Library Set for Brief August Closure for Essential Maintenance

Ketton Library is preparing for a temporary shutdown next month as Rutland County Council undertakes a series of essential maintenance works on the building.

The facility will close its doors to the public starting Monday, 17 August, with plans to welcome visitors back on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.

There will be no access to the building or the book returns letterbox for the entire duration of the closure.

Council officials noted that these general maintenance tasks are completely separate from the library's recent refurbishment.

To ensure borrowers are not inconvenienced, any items checked out from Ketton Library before the closure will have their due dates automatically extended until after the branch reopens.

Residents are reminded that library members can borrow up to 24 items at a time.

While Ketton is temporarily out of service, patrons are encouraged to visit Rutland’s other library branches, which include:

  • Oakham Library

  • Uppingham Library

  • Ryhall Library

Once the library reopens on 2 September, external maintenance is scheduled to continue for up to an additional two weeks.

During this subsequent phase, the library will remain open, though visitors should anticipate potential impacts on parking and building access. Clear signage will be in place to guide the public, and users are urged to exercise extra caution around the site.

“We’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while we carry out additional works to Ketton Library,” said Cllr Tim Smith, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Communities at Rutland County Council. “This is essential maintenance to ensure the building remains safe, well looked after and able to continue serving the local community long into the future.”
