Oakham Town Council is convening an extraordinary meeting tonight, Wednesday, 2nd September 2026, at 6:30 p.m. Led by Council Chairman Martin Brookes, the session will take place in the Council Chambers at Rol House, Long Row.
The meeting is open to both the public and the press, though attendees are advised that proceedings may be filmed and recorded. A 15-minute public deputation window is scheduled near the beginning of the session, allowing residents up to three minutes each to speak on agenda items or raise matters for future discussion.
Key Agenda Items for Tonight’s Meeting
Grant Applications: The council will review and vote on a grant applications submitted by Oakham Baptist Church.
Floral Displays and Contracts: Motions brought forward by Chairman Brookes include forming a two-member Floral Display Working Group. If approved, this group will immediately begin securing land permissions and drafting tender specifications for the 2027–2029 contract period, with final awards subject to Full Council approval. The Clerk is also slated to receive authorisation to draft official Terms of Reference for the group.
Governance and Professional Review: Councillors will consider engaging a legally qualified specialist to draft and produce a cohesive suite of updated council papers, standing orders, and regulations.
Local Plan Consultation: The council will debate and finalise its formal response to Rutland County Council’s modifications to the Local Plan consultation.
