Rutland County Council Launches Public Consultation on LTP4 Transport Strategy Through to 2036
Rutland County Council has launched a public consultation on its updated draft Local Transport Plan (LTP4), titled Moving Rutland Forward. The initiative invites residents, local businesses, community organisations, and visitors to shape the county's transportation network, management strategies, and infrastructure investments through to 2036.
The updated draft builds upon Rutland’s initial 2019 transport strategy, incorporating recent shifts in national policy, evolving local priorities, and updated funding frameworks. Alongside the core plan, the consultation covers the second LTP4 Implementation Plan, outlining the practical steps required to deliver the strategy’s objectives.
Key Focus Areas of the Plan, Active travel options, including walking, wheeling, and cycling infrastructure, Public transport services and network reliability, Road maintenance, traffic management, and parking strategies, Road safety improvements across rural and urban routes, Expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Improved accessibility to employment, education, healthcare, and essential services
The framework is organised around five core themes, Population Growth, Working in Rutland, Learning in Rutland, Living in Rutland, and Visiting and Enjoying Rutland.
Cllr Oliver Hemsley, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, emphasised the broad impact of the initiative on the community. "Transport plays an important role in the lives of everyone in Rutland, whether that’s getting to work or school, accessing essential services, visiting our towns and villages or enjoying our countryside," he noted, encouraging all stakeholders to provide input on the county's identified challenges and priorities.

Following the close of the consultation, all submissions will be evaluated by the Council. A summary report detailing how public feedback influenced the strategy will be published alongside the final adoption of the Local Transport Plan.
