Ex Oakham Mayor Jim Harrison, "Has Oakham actually got the Christmas Tree it deserves" thanks to voter apathy
He could have a point, I don't think residents have the the tree they deserve. Voter apathy is a big
problem Oakham Town Council has a majority of co-opted councillor because no one wants
to serve their community. The others are mainly elected unopposed of course the lovely Stan
Stubs was elected.
I hope in May 2015 enough people stand and Oakham get the council this town deserves.
If not then it should be abolished. If Rutland County Council took on the responsibility of the
three play parks, hanging baskets and Christmas lights people would find their council tax bills
would reduce. The Town Council is not responsible for any other services.
Not wanting to add to his stress but something needs to been done about the over paid
clerk. He is paid more than the highest recommended pay scale for the job. He goes of sick
every time something goes wrong.
