Oakham New £40,000 Skatepark No Community Fundraising? Oakham Town Council
About six years ago Oakham Town Council spent a similar sum of money providing
a skate park. Since it's installation repairs have cost nearly the same again.
So it is surprising to see the Town Council is installing a new skatepark using
similar materials.
Also it is disappointing to see no community involvement to fund raise for the
replacement.
The village of Exton was turned down for funding and that has not stopped
the community getting involved. The Parish council unlike Oakham Town
Council turned to residents for support. This involved many community
based activities and included a bingo session only last week.
A person involved with the Exton project told me "at first it was a difficult
task to get the young people involved, but once they did there was no stopping
them and they will appreciate the end result"
Why does Oakham Town Council continually not want to involve the community
it is meant to serve?
The Town Council received £2000 from the Trustees of the Memorial Institute
Oakham
£30,500 from Rutland County Council
leaving a £7500 bill for the Town Council.
