Whitwell Village News Summer Fundraising, 100 Club Draws, and Autumn Events
It has been a busy and rewarding time for St Michael & All Angels Church in Whitwell, with successful community gatherings, exciting upcoming draws, and plenty of dates for your diary.
On Friday 17th July, the church hosted a wonderfully entertaining and "tongue-in-cheek" talk delivered by the Rector.
A very special thanks was sent to Linda for arranging and hosting the event, as well as preparing a thoroughly enjoyable homemade lunch for everyone who attended. Grateful thanks are also extended to all the backroom volunteers whose behind-the-scenes efforts ensured the day ran smoothly. Despite a slightly slow start with ticket sales, the event successfully raised £470 for church funds.
Excitement is mounting for the very first 100 Club draw, which will take place on Saturday 8th August inside the church, beginning at 5.30pm.
The Prize Pot: For this inaugural draw, the total prize pot stands at £480.00. This will be shared as a £180.00 first prize, a £60.00 second prize, and £240.00 going directly toward Church Funds.
How to Join: If you are not yet a participant and would like to enter this upcoming draw, you can do so by paying £15 into the St Michael and All Angels 100 Club account by 3rd August 2026. Please get in touch with Simon Jackson or the organising team for account details.
Alongside the draw, Linda will be providing refreshments during a dedicated hour starting at 5.30pm. During this time, attendees will be invited to help complete an important questionnaire issued by the Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust.
Because several of the questions are community-based, local input is vital. You do not need to be a member of the 100 Club to get involved, and all villagers are warmly encouraged to come along and lend a hand.
Mark your calendars for the return of the popular Michaelmas Afternoon Tea, scheduled for Sunday 28th September from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Linda has agreed to organise this favorite event once again. Alongside the delicious refreshments you have come to expect, the afternoon will feature separate stalls selling, cakes and pastries, preserves and plants, aTombola and potentially a raffle
Last year’s Michaelmas Afternoon Tea raised a fantastic £1180, and it would be brilliant to reach a similar target this year. Keep an eye out for requests for volunteer help during late August and September to help make the day a success.
