A Call to Action Stand Up Against Forced Local Government Re-Organisation
Local communities are at a turning point. The character, identity, and representation of many villages and towns are currently under threat from proposed local government re-organisation plans that aim to consolidate power into distant, impersonal "mega-councils."
Alicia Kearns has announced that her official petition against these measures is now live, she is calling on every resident to add their voice to this cause.
Alicia says, the proposed changes are not merely administrative; they strike at the heart of how we govern ourselves. If these plans proceed, we face:
The Leicester City Takeover, Harborough villages risk being absorbed into the administrative structure of Leicester City, losing their unique rural identity and having their specific local needs buried under urban priorities.
The Mega-Council Threat, Residents in Rutland, Stamford, and the South Kesteven villages are being pushed toward massive, unmanageable mega-councils. This shift will inevitably lead to a loss of local accountability, slower response times, and a disconnection between those making decisions and the people those decisions affect.
we will not be taken for granted. Decisions about our homes, our schools, and our infrastructure should be made by people who understand and live in our communities, not by faceless bureaucracies in distant offices.
A petition is more than just a list of names; it is a powerful tool to demonstrate the collective will of our community. It provides concrete evidence that the people being most affected by these changes are fundamentally opposed to them.
Once we have gathered as many signatures as possible, I will personally present this petition on the floor of the House of Commons. This will ensure that our opposition is placed directly into the parliamentary record, forcing those in power to acknowledge our stance and consider the impact of these proposals on real people.
Every single signature counts. By signing, you are telling the decision-makers that you demand local control and that you reject the forced consolidation of our unique communities.
Sign the Petition: Please add your name to the petition today to ensure our message is as loud as possible.
Share Widely: Do not stop at your own signature. Share this petition with your neighbors, friends, and family. The more signatures we gather, the stronger our position will be when we take our fight to the House of Commons.
Our strength lies in our unity. Let us show them that our communities are not up for negotiation.
