Admiral Hornblower High Street Oakham Rutland Tree Preservation Order Rutland County Council
Since the new owners took over the Admiral Hornblower it became
very apparent quickly that they may not like trees.
The first task they took on was to bring in men to hack down
two of the high streets oldest trees and a lot of other green life.
Now they want to cut down the lime tree is the side yard.
Oakham Town Councils daft tree warden Cllr Joyce Lucas BEM
recently resigned as tree warden after she made comments about
Rutland County Council stripping the town of trees.
She very soon took the chance to be reinstated as tree warden
for Oakham.
Cllr Lucas recommended the felling of this Lime tree and
other members of the planning made a daft recommendation
and went along with her recommendation to fell.
I abstained, Cllr Lucas gave me one of her looks.
I the tree warden puts evidence before me that a tree is
diseased of causing property damage I would go along with
her recommendations. Cllr Lucas has made verbal comments
in the past to the effect she is the tree warden and we should
do as she wants. Well I am sorry that is not the case.
Especially when I have witnessed and filmed her being very
flippant at meetings, I particularly remember the time she could
not find her report and threw her hands up in the air and
said just fell it!
In this case I am pleased Rutland County Council are
not listening to Oakham Town Council's recommendation.
Most Oakham Town Councillors are not interest in any
aspect of preserving Oakham's heritage or it's future.
All they are interested in is themselves and how the public
perceive them.
A perfect example is it's involvement with the castle restoration
project and its contribution. A handful of benches and the
most important part of that is the additional cost to taxpayers
of having the Town Council's logo put on each bench.
Most non selfish organisations would have thought beyond
themselves and perhaps ask local people if they would have
liked to sponsor them as memorial benches.
