Brooke Road Closure Begins in Oakham

Brooke Road Closure Begins in Oakham

Brooke Road Oakham Changes For Ever, Tree Felling Has Started :-(
Shame on you Rutland County Council!
A large protest banner was erected and quickly removed yesterday.

This week saw the long-anticipated closure of Brooke Road in Oakham, impacting both vehicles and pedestrians. The closure, which includes the level crossing, is to facilitate construction of the new housing development on the former allotment site.

While previous reports indicated no pedestrian access, there were reports of pedestrians being allowed through yesterday.

This closure has been a source of contention, with concerns raised about the loss of allotments and the impact on traffic flow. The decision by the allotment society to accept compensation and leave the site has also drawn criticism.

Adding to the disappointment is the removal of trees for road widening. This loss of greenery is a further concern for many residents.

Many motorists appear not to see the road closure warning signs, they drive all the way down Brooke Road crossing turning on the pavement and residents driveways.
