Oakham Town Council, Spending £764.88 on Pencils and Car Stickers to Promote Oakham Town Council at Christmas Shopping Night

Oakham Town Council, Spending £764.88 on Pencils and Car Stickers to Promote Oakham Town Council at Christmas Shopping Night.

Oakham Town Council Promotions of Oakham Working Group is to waste £764.88

Last night the council approved a proposal to spend the money on Pencils and Car Stickers
and a leaflet stand.

The proposal was put forward by Cllr Charles Haworth.

Other Councillors ask simple questions like what would be printed on the pencils

1000 costing £160.00 +Vat

The reply was Oakham Town Council

Then the same question was asked about the car stickers.

1000 costing £201 + Vat

It will most likely read I love Oakham and Not I Love Oakham Town Council

The pencils and stickers will most likely be handed out at the late night shopping
event.

The same group recently spent nearly £4,000 on gazebos to stand under at events
They will be used for the first time at the late night Christmas shopping event outside
Natwest Bank.

I think the biggest waste of tax payers money has to be the new leaflet stand that will
be placed outside the council door costing £276.40

The council acknowledges there is a huge leaflet display board nearby but say it
belongs to Victoria Hall and its not the councils.

Over the last year this group has spent a fortune and achieved very little.

They produced a very expensive tourist leaflet that was scrapped due to its production costs.

Finally they they can only come up with pencils and stickers,

They have asked for a budget of £9,000 for next year in the usual income led
approach from this council.

Changes are coming and the two councillor responsible for setting the budget
has sent them away to bring a plan of action to the council.

Cllr Lucas said they needed £9,000 just in case they needed it and if they found
they needed to do something they would not like to think they could not do it due
to lack of funds.
