The Buonamici Quartet Summer Concert,

Friday June 14th

RUTLAND’S BUONAMICI STRING QUARTET TO RAISE THE ROOF
A Summer Classical Music Concert at St Mary the Virgin, South Luffenham
Friday 14 June, 7.30pm

Leading local chamber group The Buonamici String Quartet will be performing a concert at St Mary the Virgin in South Luffenham, Rutland on 14 June to raise vital funds for the restoration of the historic church.

The Buonamici String Quartet, formed in 2000, is a group of four talented musicians from Rutland and Lincolnshire. They will play a selection of pieces by Mozart, Haydn and Tchaikovsky in the stunning architectural setting of the 12th century church.

Errol Matthews, leader of the Buonamici Quartet, said: “We are delighted to be performing at South Luffenham church in June and to be able to share these wonderful pieces which embody courtly dances, Russian folk song and Hungarian gypsy melodies. All three are sunny works in bright keys written at happy periods of the composers’ lives – perfect music for a summer’s evening.”

The Revd. Geoff Angell said: “St Mary’s is first and foremost a place of worship but it is also, like so many Rutland parish churches, a much-loved building of real architectural and historical importance. The 800-year-old fabric costs a great deal to maintain, however, and we are now urgently raising funds for major repairs including those to the roof. We hope as many people as possible will come to this concert to enjoy great music in the knowledge they are also helping to secure the future of a piece of local heritage”.

The members of The Buonamici Quartet are Errol Matthews, a violinist who played with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and trained with the late Howard Davis, Leader of the Alberni String Quartet and Professor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music London; Sarah Latham, a violinist who trained at the Trinity College of Music in London, has played in orchestras under the baton of such inspirational conductors as Roger Norrington, teaches violin at Stamford Endowed Schools and leads the Rutland Sinfonia; Dan Leetch, a viola player who is Head of Strings at Stamford Endowed Schools and trained at the Royal Academy of Music London under the renowned String Quartet Violist Ian Jewel; and Michael Horsfall, Principal Cellist of the Stamford Chamber Orchestra who trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and has taught ‘cello in Lincolnshire for more than 30 years.
