Colonel Robert E J Boyle DL Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry Squadron Royal Yeomanry, Begging Freedom Letter

Colonel Robert E J Boyle DL Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry Squadron Royal Yeomanry

This begging letter was sent last year but only just been shown to Councillors
at Oakham Town Council.

I am pleased to say the Councillors defered the request.

I believe it is correct we should remember those who died fighting for
our country.

But this costly granting of Freedom of Entry is a waste of tax payers money.

Most people are at work when these events happen and the troops are sent back to barracks
whilst the pompus and their followers enjoy a reception paid for by tax payers.

The last Freedom of entry granted cost Oakham Tax  Payers thousands, what do we
have to show for it a silly old sword in a display cabinet, which the tax payer had to also
pay for. As for the regiment that was based at St George's Barracks they were sent packing
on the day Freedom was granted.

This year Oakham Town Council has decided to grant the freedom to a RAF Aux Regiment
that is based miles away in Whittering. Even though Cllr Dodds was concerned this would give them
the right to run amok through our town, Cllr Lockett put her mind at rest explaining the Aux Regiment was a bunch of unfit amatures who were highly unlikely to be fit enough to run anywhere. in turn offending Cllr Stubbs. Thousands of pounds will be wasted on this freedom.

As for Colonel Boyles request it should have been rejected, since when do you write asking for an
honour? be it out dated and pointless and costly to the tax payer.

Has he considered writing to his own Town Council in Uppingham? or does he realise they are not keen
on wasting public money.

He could write to Leicestershire or Derbyshire?

In Oakham we are forced to pay money to a town council that is stuck in the 1970's  It is time this stopped.
Of course the law says the money they rob us of must be used for the benefit of those who live in the parish I can't see how this expediture benefits any resident, unless your are a Cllr or former Mayor or Cllr.

I can't see why any respectable regiment would want to be associated with homophobic liars like Cllr Charles Haworth and Co.
