Cutts Close Oakham Family Fun Day Concludes Summer in Style

Oakham’s Cutts Close park came alive with music, community spirit, and family entertainment this Sunday, 30th August 2026, marking the grand finale of Oakham Town Council’s popular summer events programme. Running from 12:00 PM to just past 5:00 PM, the well-attended afternoon offered something for all ages under clear, fortunate skies.
The community-focused celebration blended entertainment with active charitable fundraising. Mayor Martin Brookes handed the spotlight to the Rotary Club of Rutland, who managed the afternoon’s traditional Sunday charity collection buckets. Meanwhile, the Lions Club of Rutland hosted an informational stall to promote their local charitable initiatives, and the Mayor’s friend, Pippy Woodley, drew people with a fun lively human fruit machine that successfully raised £65.14 for the Mayor’s chosen charity. Generous support from Tesco Oakham provided the fresh fruit hamper used as the main prize draw.
Musical performances anchored the afternoon's atmosphere, featuring diverse sets from local artists CJ Hatt, Sammy Dean, and the band Vesper, providing a rich blend of styles that entertained the crowd throughout the day. Younger attendees enjoyed free access to bouncy castles and various children's attractions, alongside stalls showcasing independent local businesses and artisans.
Reflecting on the success of the afternoon, Mayor Martin Brookes extended his gratitude to Cllrs Sally-Anne Wadsworth and Dave Romney, alongside Lee, for their hard work setting up for the event. Special thanks were also given to the members of the Lions Club of Rutland, Pippy Woodley, and every resident and volunteer who contributed to the season.
"I thank everyone who has helped and supported at this year's summer events in Cutts Close," said Mayor Martin Brookes, looking ahead to the future. "I am already looking forward to next year's events."
President of The Lions Club of Rutland Allan Grey, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Oakham Town Mayor Martin Brookes for his amazing fundraising on their behalf, over £1,600 Mayor year to date. Pippy Woodley who has helped so much this year and also made the amazing fruit hamper with fruit donated by Tesco Oakham.
