Cyclists from All over the UK angry with Oakham Police Advice, D Cook, Southampton Writes to Rutland Times

Cyclists from All over the UK angry with Oakham Police Advice, D Cook, Southampton Writes to Rutland Times

@oakhampolice twitter account has been bombarded by angry cyclists from all over the UK after
a  new PCSO featured in a Leicestershire Police Cycle Safety video.

They will of course all be promptly traced arrested and charged with harassing the police.

The police claim its a safety campaign, I rather think its a stock clearance before Oakham Police Station
is closed this April and Jon Gower who normally sells these products and other items is made redundant.

The controversial  story and video

Police are advising cyclists to be seen and be safe while riding at night.
During January and February officers in Oakham will target cyclists who ride their bikes without lights at night.
PCSO 6017 Martin Clarke said: “We have received a number of complaints about cyclists riding at night without any lights.
“This is not only illegal, but presents a danger to other road users as well as the cyclist themselves.”
During the campaign police will stop any cyclists not wearing safety equipment and reminding them to use lights, helmets and visible clothing.
PCSO Clarke added: “Persistent offenders may be prosecuted.”

People can buy a range of cycle safety equipment from Oakham police station.
