Daniel Bottomley Co-opted onto Oakham Town Council
Every time we co-opt a new member we fail to follow the basic local government act rules
for co-option.
When more than one candidate has applied we should vote on both candidates and the one with
the overall majority is co-opted.
The Council voted just to accept the recommendation of an appointed interview panel which was that Daniel Bottomley was co-opted.
I had to fight for some time to get the vote held in public as part of the local governments act that
all aspects of co-option should be open and transparent.
The other candidate Johnathan Spencer was not considered by the full council during the vote.
At last nights meeting the Clerk Allison Greaves was once again challenged in public to provide the the written proof of advice she claimed to have received from NALC. The Clerk claims NALC have advised the council that the local government does not apply to parish councils.
She was unwilling to produce the evidence?
I am pleased Daniel has been co-opted he has attended many meeting over the last year since
expressing an interest. Daniel says he is chuffed and looking forward to working with the council.
He is a member of the British Army, and one of our youngest councillors.
