Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today – as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!
Gable Events has joined with Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice to bring you the 18th Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival. The Festival is open to everyone and up to 52 crews are expected to battle it out over the 200m race course on Saturday 11th June 2016, watched by several thousand spectators.
Peterborough Rowing Club at Thorpe Meadows, PE3 6LN offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair activities, inflatables and children’s rides plus a variety of food stalls and bar.
It’s 25 years since Sue Ryder opened Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough providing incredible end of life care to people across the region. We are using our silver anniversary year to mark everything that has been achieved thanks to the help of our thousands of supporters – and everything that is to come.
We now operate from a state-of-the-art hospice building and also within the community, offering expert medical care as well as practical and emotional support at what is a very difficult time. We are a safety net for our patients and their families for as long as they need us.
Every year we have to fundraise £1.3 million to provide that incredible care.
The money you raise by taking part in the Dragon Boat Festival 2016 will mean we can be there to hold someone’s hand, help ease their pain or support their family after they’re gone.
Please speak to our fundraising team to find out how you can make your time in the dragon boat count towards providing incredible care.
