Ex-Leicestershire Police Officer Faces Gross Misconduct Hearing for Holiday Foul Play

Leicestershire Police has announced an accelerated gross misconduct hearing for former PC Raja Khan. The hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, at 10:00 AM, will address allegations of misconduct during Khan's time as a serving officer.

The Allegations:

Feigning Illness: It is reported that in October 2023, while on sick leave, Khan was actually vacationing in Turkey.

Unauthorized Access: Khan allegedly provided access to his police laptop to a non-officer acquaintance.

Proxy Reporting: This acquaintance was reportedly instructed to send an email or complete a sick leave form on Khan's behalf.

These actions are considered to be a breach of several professional standards, including:

Discreditable Conduct: Khan's alleged behaviour is seen as damaging the public's trust in the police.

Confidentiality: Unauthorised access to police laptops raises serious concerns about information security.

Honesty and Integrity: Fabricating illness and manipulating records undermines these core values.

Orders and Instructions: Disobeying police regulations regarding sick leave constitutes a breach of discipline.

The Outcome:

The hearing will determine the severity of Khan's misconduct and any potential consequences within the Leicestershire Police framework. It's important to note that Khan has already resigned from the force.

Public Access:

The hearing will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams. Members of the public can apply to observe the proceedings by following this link:
