Phil Dyke, Hailey Hall School
Last weekend I posted on friends reunited. A comment about my memories of teachers at
the school, two of those teachers did not hold good memories for me. Phil Dyke was
my Art Teacher and Don Cummings was a head house parent.
I was surprised to receive a message from an old school friend who now lives in Hatfield
he tells me a horrific story of how Phil Dyke abused him and this week he saw the teacher
sent to prison.
It deeply upset me because I wish I had reported what I knew about Phil Dyke at the
time. But at the age of 13 - 16 who do you tell?
The local press reports the School took in boys who were excluded from main school
this was not always the case.
In my case it was recommended that I attended the school as it would benefit me.
Hertfordshire County Council have a lot of questions to answer why they sent boys
to a school where they were bullied and sometimes beaten by members of staff
and provided no opportunity to gain any formal qualifications.
Dyke from Ramsey, Cambs, admitted charges including gross indecency and indecent assault. At St Albans Crown Court.
I am pleased he admitted his crimes and has been sent to prison for eight years
