Mr Walters – “Could the Leader of the UKIP Group provide a list of
achievements of that group in both its current and former name, in respect
of motions it has made which have been approved, and amendments to
other member’s’ motions which it has moved which have then been
approved?”

The Chairman invited the Leader of the Rutland Group of the United
Kingdom Independence Party, Mr Gale, to respond.

Mr Gale responded that he did not retain a record of what he or others
said at Council meetings. Cllr Walters had the same access to Council
minutes as Mr Gale did and members understood that the minutes did not
contain the debate on any Motion. Mr Gale explained that the UKIP
councillors would support Motions which were well researched and where
adequate information was provided in order to make a qualified decision.
He indicated that he could provide a considerable amount of information
regarding the UKIP councillors’ commitment to the community. He stated
he would be surprised if any other three back-bench councillors could
demonstrate as much time and commitment to the community as the
three UKIP councillors had done. Mr Gale referred to his suggestion
made a the beginning of the current Council in requesting councillors to
provide a CV outlining their strengths of knowledge to use for the benefit
of the community but unfortunately party politics got in the way and it did
not happen.

In his supplementary question, Mr Walters queried that regardless of the
three UKIP councillors’ history and their motivation, they had not, in fact,
achieved anything? Mr Gale stated he regarded Mr Walters’ comment as
an insult.

One could ask what Mr Walters has achieved as an independent councillor? the answer
is nothing just like the infective short period he was on Oakham Town Council.
