Leicestershire County Council are proposing some cuts and closures to libraries in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire County Council are proposing some cuts to libraries in Leicestershire.

They are asking for your views.  Their consultation is open until noon on 7 July.

They are proposing to:

Continue to operate our 16 most-used libraries but reduce their opening hours
Support communities to run the other 36 local libraries - if community groups do not come forward, some libraries may close

Your views are important so they can better understand how the proposals could affect you.

These days we can't rely on the donations of philanthropists such as Andrew Carnegie, John Passmore Edwards and Henry Tate.

I recently read a letter in the Rutland Times from a reader refering to an Act, that act only gives
Town Councils and Parish Council permission to provide museums and libraries, it does not require the councils to provide the service as suggested in the letter.

Leicestershire unlike Rutland has some good and varied libraries it would be a shame if any were lost.

Rutland County Library is Tory controlled and this is obvious by the small selction of pro Tory Daily Newspapers made available.

On one of my previous I was greated by a selection of dated and horrific books, all on prominent displayed like a shrine in the center to their goddess Margaret Thatcher.
