the dangers of drink driving during December.

With the arrival of the festive season Leicestershire Police is launching its December
drink driving campaign which will see more local officers out on the streets. Checks
will be made at random locations at any time of the day or night - early in the morning,
at lunchtime or during the evening.

A total of 76 drivers were arrested during the previous Summer Drink Drive campaign,
these people where of all ages, ranging from 15 to 70 years old, both male and female
and were arrested around the clock, across the Police force area, in both urban and rural areas.

The local campaign supports the national December drink drive campaign launched
by the Association of Chief Police Officers which will see Police forces throughout the
UK working hard throughout the month to make sure the roads are safe for everyone.

Chief Inspector Steve Potter for Leicestershire Police comments: “Cracking down on
those who drink and then drive is a year round commitment for Leicestershire Police.
However, we are very aware the festive season can present opportunities where people
are tempted to drive after drinking.

We would advise drivers to plan ahead by leaving
the car at home, sharing a taxi or taking public transport or alternatively nominating a
designated driver who will avoid drink alcohol.”
