Walking for Lorna A 70-Something’s 13-Mile Mission of Love, Lorna's Legacy for Supershoes

Walking for Lorna A 70-Something’s 13-Mile Mission of Love

For most people, the London Landmarks Half Marathon is a race against the clock. But for Allan affectionately known as "Walking Al" the upcoming event in April 2026 isn't about setting a personal best; it’s about honoring a beautiful legacy.

At 70-something years young, Allan is trading his running shoes of yesteryear for a steady, determined pace. He is taking on the 13.1-mile course to raise funds for Supershoes, a charity that held a special place in the heart of his late wife, Lorna, who passed away nearly two years ago.

Lorna’s memory has already inspired incredible feats of bravery and creativity from those who loved her. Since her passing, the "Lorna’s Legacy" mission has seen, A Leap of Faith, last year, Allan and his family took to the skies for his "first and last" skydive.

A Night of Stars, last July, Lorna’s close friend Diahann organised a vibrant variety performance.

Now, the baton (or rather, the walking stick) has been passed back to Allan. Alongside his daughter Lucy and friend Diahann, he aims to cross the finish line within the event’s four-hour limit. While he jokingly calls it "easy peasy," the physical demand of a half marathon is a testament to his dedication to the cause.

The beneficiary of Allan's walk is a unique charity that brings a splash of color and a boost of confidence to children facing their darkest days.

Supershoes creates customised, hand-painted Converse trainers and boots for children and young people undergoing treatment for cancer. Each pair is personalized to the child's favorite things superheroes, animals, or hobbies reminding them of who they are beyond their diagnosis.

"A pair of Supershoes is more than just footwear; it’s a way to empower a child, encouraging them to keep walking, keep smiling, and keep fighting."

Allan is proof that you are never too old to make a difference. Every step he takes through the streets of London brings a smile to a child in treatment.
