Christine Emmett "decided to dip her toes into the sometime turbulent waters of Catmose"
Ketton Parish Council Magazine Chatterbox Summer 2011
At the recent County council elections, there were only two candidates for the two seats in the
Barrowden & Ketton Ward and they were therefore
elected unopposed. One was Barrie Roper, who has
represented the ward for eight years and needs no
introduction, having been a parish councillor before
that. The second was Christine Emmett, who lives
in Barrowden, and has decided to dip her toes into the
sometime turbulent waters of Catmose.
Christine has lived in Rutland for 20 years. She has
been a non executive director at Peterborough and
Stamford hospitals and also at the University Hospitals
of Leicester. She and her husband run a small holiday
cottage business in Rutland and she is also a founder of
a business networking group which was set up to bring
together politicians and the owners of small businesses in
the region.
Of living in Rutland she says “When I first arrived here
from London I did not know a soul, yet now if I nip out for a loaf of bread, I need to allow extra time
for all the people I meet! It really is a most friendly and beautiful place.”
She has considerable experience in the voluntary sector: fund raising for charity including the
Prince’s Trust. She is involved promoting the cooperative movement and the mutual business model for
provision of services and occasionally helps out at the Barrowden community shop. A former chairman
of Age Concern Oakham & Rutland, she has considerable experience working in local communities
with those who may be at a disadvantage accessing services. She is a lay member on a community
panel at a half way house for ex-offenders. Recently her work included addressing groups in Uganda,
Rwanda and Uganda on business and democracy.
Whenever she has the opportunity Christine enjoys reading, fishing and cooking Sunday lunch for
her family.
We wish Christine every success and hope that she will make her presence known both in Ketton and
Oakham
