In his role of Regimental Secretary of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers and then the Royal Lancers, he made significant deals, which saw the now 73-year-old broker agreements for totemic items such as cap badge and uniform. 

He also organised the amalgamation and guidon parades, both of which were attended by Her Majesty The Queen. 

Martyn is also a former conservative Rutland County Councillor.
