Older People's Day

National Older People’s Day is being celebrated in Rutland on Tuesday 1 October with an information event for the local community being held at Victoria Hall in Oakham.

The national event is a celebration of the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society and to the economy.
To mark the occasion locally, Rutland County Council is joining forces with a number of voluntary and community organisations to promote activity, learning and volunteering in later life.
The event takes place between 1pm and 5pm at Victoria Hall in Oakham and anyone is welcome to attend.
Advice and ‘have a go’ activities will be available from a number of organisations including:
  • Adult Learning - information on learning and hobby activities in Rutland – as well as opportunities to learn more about the Internet.
  • Community Safety, Fire and Police – keeping safe oot and about and in your own home.
  • Museums and Libraries – a small exhibition as well as information on available services and activities in your local museum and library
  • Leisure – activity information for retired people and a chance to try – dance, keep fit, guided walks etc.
  • Volunteering opportunities for retired people – how to use your spare time productively – why not sign up for a chance to contribute to your community.
This year the focus for Older People’s Day is about sharing the skills and experience between different generations. The day celebrates later life and the huge contribution older people make to their communities.
Everyone has a parent or grandparent, colleague or friend who they look to for advice and to learn from - Older People’s Day is all about bringing older and younger people together to create better understanding and respect.
Tea and cakes will be available at the Victoria Hall event.  For more information please contact Rutland County Council on 01572 722 577, emailenquiries@rutland.gov.uk or visit http://www.rutland.gov.uk/.
