Notice of misconduct hearing for PC 2015 Jay Gorania Leicestershire Police

Notice of misconduct hearing for PC 2015 Jay Gorania Leicestershire Police

An accelerated misconduct hearing will be held in relation to a Leicestershire police constable Jay Gorania on 22nd December 2022.

It is alleged that between 12 October 2021 and 21 January 2022, the conduct of PC Jay Gorania breached the standards of professional behaviour, namely honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct.

The allegations are that on the 12 October 2021, PC Gorania reported sick from work stating he was suffering severe pain in his foot/ankle and was unable to carry out work. Medical certificates were supplied by PC Gorania to certify his absence from work between 12 October 2021 and 21 January 2022 and PC Gorania did not attend for work between these dates. During this time, PC Gorania communicated with his supervisor that he was not well enough to return to work.

It is alleged that while absent from work, PC Gorania played competitively in football matches on 19 separate occasions, any of which required him to run, pivot, and exert his feet/ankle joints, and kick a football. It is also alleged he carried out work in respect of an authorised business interest which involved telephone contact with third parties and arranging and carrying out property viewings. It is alleged this was inconsistent with PC Gorania’s reported symptoms and/or explanations as to why he could not carry out his policing role.

The hearing will take place at Force Headquarters on 22 December 2022 at 10am.

If you wish to apply to observe this hearing you must book no later than 8am on 21 December 2022.

I was wondering how a police officer who has worked for Leicestershire Police for 20 years can run 'a successful real estate business, and personally overseeing it’s efficient day-to-day operations and growth' for 13 years as well as running a business as a Approved Driving Instructor for 17 years.
