Oakham Businesses at Risk as Rutland County Council approve compulsory to accommodate Four Million Pound Transport Hub.

Oakham Businesses at Risk as Rutland County Council approve compulsory to accommodate Four Million Pound Transport Hub.

At  last nights council meeting Rutland Council agreed in principal to enforce compulsory purchases orders.

It is not yet know which businesses will be effected.

It was confirmed by Tory Councillor Oakham Tyres had been approached.

Cllr Richardson said the owner had told him the first he had heard off it was reading the local press.

Cllr Alan Walters raised concerns about access for companies behind the hub and access to the
school which he believed was already unsuitable and should never have been approved.

We were also told there are very tight time constraints set by central government to get this project up and running and completed.

I assume public consultation is going to very swift and residents will get whatever the council sees fit

I am all for progress and transport improvements but I am concerned about the visual and environmental impact this giant transport hub at Oakhams front door.

If it looks good and there is decent affordable transport out of town, then  I am sure that will make people
happy, and help them seek affordable shopping outside of Oakham.
