Oakham Castle Grand Re-Opening Red Fox Archery at Oakham Castle

Grand Re-Opening

Red Fox Archery at Oakham Castle

Test your aim with Red Fox Archery at Oakham Castle’s grand re-opening.

Oakham Castle will reopen its doors to members of the public on Monday 30th May 2016,
with a fantastic day of Norman celebrations!

The Castle has been closed for major restoration work since September 2015 and a grand reopening is planned for the Monday Bank Holiday, transporting visitors back to Norman England with exciting family events and activities. Come along and enjoy:

Norman coin striking
Falconry
Archery
Weaving
Knights on horseback
Guided tours of the site
Maypole dancing (yes – this does appear to go back that far in history!)
Much, much more

The event takes place from 11am – 4pm and is FREE to attend for everyone!

Oakham Castle is the finest example of Norman domestic architecture in the country and now boasts an array of new displays and activities for families and those interested in history. This is thanks to a £2millon investment from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The reopening of the Castle also coincides with the return of the High Sheriff’s Hue and Cry. The revived Hue and Cry takes the form of a charity chase down Oakham High Street, with prizes for winners and the best-dressed participants.

All proceeds from the Hue and Cry will go to support the High Sheriff’s charities.
