Oakham Castle to Shine Bright for National Kinship Care Week
One of Rutland’s most historic and iconic landmarks is set to light up in vibrant colors next month to recognize the vital, often "unseen" work of local kinship carers.
On the evening of Tuesday, October 6, Oakham Castle will be illuminated in purple and yellow the official colors of the Kinship charity to mark national Kinship Care Week.
The special illumination will be officially switched on at 7:00 PM by Kevin Quinn, the strategic director of children’s services at Rutland County Council (RCC), alongside several of the county’s kinship children.
The event has been organised by the Rutland Kinship Carers Group, with backing from RCC’s Fostering team and Virtual School. Organisers hope to draw attention to the essential role played by grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and family friends who step up to raise children when their birth parents are unable to do so.
Members of the public are warmly invited to attend the switch-on event, with guests welcome to arrive from 6:45 PM to enjoy free hot chocolate.
