Oakham Headmaster Nigel Lashbrook Issues Statement after Tragic Loss  of Pupils Anna Haefeli and Anastasia Besedovska

Communication from the Headmaster

9 December 2014

It is with great sadness that we can now confirm that two of our students tragically lost their lives on Friday 5 December in a serious road traffic accident.

Understandably, the School community is extremely upset by the devastating loss of two such wonderful young adults, Anna Haefeli and Anastasia Besedovska, both Form 7 students. The thoughts and prayers of all of us are with Anna and Anastasia’s families and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Both girls were well-loved within our school community. Anna had a great sense of humour and lit up the lives of those around her, and Anastasia radiated warmth and serenity on virtually every day of her school life.

This is a terrible loss to our community, particularly those students and staff who knew the girls well. As you would expect we are, of course, doing all we can to support our pupils and staff through this incredibly difficult time.

We have been overwhelmed by the many acts of kindness shown to the School during this most difficult of weeks, and would like to thank everyone for their support and consideration.
