Oakham Market Place Ancient Trees Felled For Health and Safety and Cosmetic Reasons
Today Sunday 9th October 2016
One tree was felled and replaced due to disease.
The other three according to a report were not diseased and were causing a concern for Rutland
County Council because some of the stone paving slabs around them were even and if the trees
remained it was proposed to replace the slabs with tarmac.
the trees had been in place for a very long time and mark the corners of a former open air slaughter
house.
The poor trees were for some reason rather savagely pollarded for a number of years they hardly
seemed to grow any branches or leaves.
