Once again the Chairman and Clerk of Oakham Town Council are seeking to exempt the act of co-option at its next meeting.
The local government act lays down a very basic procedure for co-option and that is members must openly vote in public (transparently) and the candidate with the most votes is co-opted. (an absolute majority of
votes cast (50% + 1 of the votes available at the meeting))
The first time the council exempted co-option was in 2013 and they admitted this was wrong and said it would not happen again. It happened again last year and is likely to happen again this year if
I am once again ignored.
(the biggest joke here is the chairman Cllr Michael Haley who once stood for Rutland County Council stating in his election leaflet councils should be open and transparent.)
Dear Mrs Mogg (Monitoring Offcer)
Re: Oakham Town Council Co-option Oakham NW Ward
I believe once again Oakham Town Council will be acting unlawfully at its next meeting 11th April 2018.
The published agenda does not name Daniel Bottemley or Johnathan Spencer the two candidates seeking co-option to public office
The co-option item has once again been set as an exempt item, the local government act requires all co-option
votes are held in public and not held in secret. In September 2013 I raised this same issue with you and Oakham
Town Council and received a letter from Cllr Jayne Woodcock who was at the time Mayor and Chairman of the
council, The council admitted its mistake then and confirmed it would not happen again. It did last year
after I reminded Oakham Town Council of the letter I was ignored.
We are co-opting in what is meant to be a open and Democratic country and not some sort of secret dictatorship
or secret club. I trust you or the returning officer will advice the Town Council before the planned meeting.
Yours Sincerely
Martin Brookes

Oakham Clerk Allison Greaves is a dishonest liar
I am not a stalker
Oakham Mayor Cllr Michael Haley is a dishonest liar
He wrote to Victoria Hall Trustees asking them to restrict my
access to the public building, where Oakham Town Council is
based.
