Oakham Town Council Neighbourhood Plan First Public Consultation
Today Oakham Town Council held its first consultation towards the start of
working on a community led neighbourhood plan.
The photographs show the room quite empty, but after a few minutes the
room was full of residents very interested in having a say in Oakham's future.
I have always thought I would never see this day at Oakham Town Council.
What was obvious is the hard work and dedication of all the new members
of the council to see this succeed, the members of the old guard did not
make an appearance, most annoyingly these are the people who always harp
on about how good they are. This is a pivotal moment for Oakham Town
Council who hopefully will be giving our residents a say, something the
old guard does not support and showed that by not turning up today.
If they had their way they would take us back to the dark days when
of 1960s - 70s when the public were not even permitted to attend
council meetings, let alone take a leading role in a project like this.
It made a pleasant change to hear everyone receive a warm welcome.
The chamber was not as it has so often been in the past a coven of gossip
where only the old guards friends turned up.
No sneering at people (accept one incident ignored when a friend of the
one the old guard popped in)
One resident expressed an interest in becoming a councillor.
The whole event was extremely professional.
If you missed today's consultation there will be another next Saturday
